Democratic Party elects its new chairmen for local branches
Yesterday, the Democratic Party has voted for the new heads of local branches throughout the country. This process is part of the election process within the party structure ahead of the local government elections that will be held on June 20, 2019. So, the voting taken place in the Democratic Party of Berat reconfirmed Gazmend Azizi for a second term in office. Azizi obtained 172 votes, while his rival, Shkelqim Hysi obtained 108 votes. Meanwhile, party members in Elbasan elected Eugen Isai, who obtained 378 votes as opposed to his rival, Zamir Muzhaqi who obtained 80 votes.

On the other hand, party structures in Kukes elected Arif Rexhmati as the head of the local branch with 118 votes, who defeated Fasli Germizi who only managed to obtain 16 votes. As the last result shows, elections within party structures, in both the left and the right wing, is often associated with the winner obtaining 80 or 90% of the votes. Meanwhile, the largest opposition party has also held elections in several other cities of Albania with the aim of making a full transformation ahead of the local government elections and as an effort to elect new people who would be responsible of leading future political battles.

One of these battles also includes the support that the Democratic Party is offering to protesters in the area of Astir, in the capital, whose homes are being demolished as part of an infrastructural project. The party leader, Lulzim Basha was among these protesters yesterday on the 29th day of their protest, where residents have once again blocked the road and launched anti-government slogans.
