NATO’s chief Stoltenberg says that the 1999 bombardments were not aimed at the Serbian people
“The bombardment campaign of 1999 was not aimed against the Serbian people”. This was declared by NATO’s Secretary General, Aleksandar Vucic at the opening of the Serbia 2018 civil emergency drill in the town of Mladenovc, around 50 km from Belgrade.

“1999 bombardments carry painful memories for everyone, especially for those who have lost their loved ones. But that campaign was not aimed against the Serbian people”, Stoltenberg said, adding that he regretted every innocent life lost and reiterated that "the idea behind those actions was to protect civilians."

Meanwhile, NATO’s top official also commented the dialogue that Kosovo and Serbia are holding in Brussels with the aim of mending ties between the two countries.

According to him, the Alliance offers its full support for the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina and that this dialogue is the best way to find a solution which guarantees the rights of all the communities.
