European Parliament scraps visas for Kosovo, Albanian politicians praise the decision
Yesterday, the European Parliament has voted in favour of the visa liberalization for citizens of Kosovo. Kosovo’s rapporteur in the European Parliament, Tanja Fajon declared that this country has delivered all the necessary criteria. Now it’s the European Union Council of Ministers which needs to make a decision on this issue.

Meanwhile, the positive news has been well received in Tirana as state leaders immediately commented it.  The President of Republic, Ilir Meta said that this is a clear message for Kosovo’s European perspective and a positive sign that Kosovo  is strengthening and becoming a real factor of stability in the region.

“I would like to praise the decision taken by the European Parliament to scrap the visa regime for Kosovo! This is a clear message for its European perspective! I’m very happy about this great news and this great achievement for the people and the state of Kosovo, which is growing on a daily bases and becoming a real factor of peace and stability in the region”, Meta said. On his part, PM Edi Rama said that “at last, the European Parliament decided to scrap visas for Kosovo! Citizens of Kosovo will continue to be the only ones in Europe who need visas to travel to Europe for a little longer, but today’s decision should be praised”.

The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha has also praised the decision taken today for the citizens of Kosovo. “I’m very happy about the decision taken by the European Parliament to remove the visa regime for the citizens of Kosovo. This voting was well deserved and makes the citizens of Kosovo the same as citizens of the countries of the region. The decision is a clear support that the European Parliament offers for Kosovo and its European perspective”, Basha said.
