MPs debate in parliament, artists and citizens demonstrate outside
The bill which gives way to the demolition of the building of the National Theater and the construction of a new theater and several towers by a private company, has been the topic of the heated debates held yesterday by MPs in parliament.  Meanwhile, outside parliament, representatives of civil society and artists have demonstrated against the voting of this bill. “We call on Edi Rama not to pass this bill; otherwise we will escalate our protest. Don’t do this; don’t push us to a point where you wouldn’t want to confront us”, protesters said. Meanwhile, actor Neritan Liçaj has read a petition that

“The Alliance for the Protection of the Theater has sent to all Albanian and foreign institutions to prevent the demolition of the theater. “Be careful with artists!”, said actor Bujar Asqeriu. Meanwhile, inside parliament, the minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro has presented the bill and the arguments why the Theater building should be demolished. After her speech, a debate has taken place between majority and opposition MPs. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim basha has denounced what he has considered as “the theft of the century” and has requested answers for the questions deposited by SMI’s parliamentary group. He said that this is a crime, while the majority is looking to punish those who have raised their voice against the demolition of the theater.
