The Albanian PM, Edi Rama even accused the opposition of exerting its influence with the aim of damaging this process.
“This is confirmed by all our partners. This is confirmed by those who offered their contribution for Albania. Our opposition is the only one saying that the negotiations will not be opened, while the EU Council sends a postcard of congratulations for every Albanian. We will continue our work because there’s still a lot to do and a lot of battles to win”, Rama said.
Meanwhile, Foreign minister Ditmir Bushati has praised the decision taken by the EU, adding that the opposition sees Albania as a country surrounded by enemies. On the other hand, the leader of the opposition, Lulzim Basha said that the only way the country can join the EU is by accepting the truth. Basha also declared that through its decision, the EU decided not to open negotiating talks with Albania. Meanwhile, a reaction has also arrived from Brussels regarding the decision on Albania’s accession talks. European Commission spokesperson, Maja Kocijancic said that the European Commission will start the necessary preparations immediately after the decision of the European Council. She also added that the Commission will continue to support Albania in its efforts to achieve the required reforms.
