Mayor Veliaj explained that due to a contest taking place in Barcelona on “Skanderbeg” square, he could not be present at the hearing today, therefore decided to appear yesterday along with minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro. “Take this thief out of the premises”, democrat MPs shouted, not allowing mayor Veliaj to offer his arguments about the project of the new National Theater. Meanwhile, this episode has also sparked different reactions by political representatives. “A party lacking basic behavioral ethics has turned parliamentary debate into a violent stage!”, PM Edi Rama commented. Meanwhile, the chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha said that the National Theater’s affair is a criminal theft that Rama has been preparing for more than a year along with his clients. Basha continued by saying that what the opposition did aimed at protecting the public’s interest and parliamentarism.
“Parliament should represent the interests of the people and not the interests of the construction mob, the underworld and drugs. Edi Rama is the one who is closing the European doors for us for the fifth year in a row”, Basha added. On the other hand, the socialist whip, Taulant Balla said that the majority will request the removal of the chairman of the parliamentary media committee, Albana Vokshi, from the post that she holds. Meanwhile, Vokshi declared that she will press charges against the officers of the Republican Guard who protected the mayor, instead of protecting MPs.
