The mayor of Tirana also posed for a photo with actors Arben Derhemi and Alfred Trebicka along with film director, Altin Basha. According to him, it’s been agreed that the National Theater will be in the same location where it is today. The theater will occupy a single building and above all, no taxpayers’ money will be spent. “It’s now been incorporated in the bill that will govern the new theater that the theater building will not be touched, while the new theater will be constructed as a mono-volume building, without towers above it. This theater will be built with money coming from the private sector”, Veliaj added.
But, according to him, part of this agreement was also the fact that the work group which will negotiate for the project of the new theater, will include several actors. After the meeting, Derhemi and Basha have declared that this is only the first consensual step, while the talks will continue in order to reach a full agreement. On the other hand, yesterday, 65 artists have sent a letter to the President, Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament, the Mayor and Minister of Culture where they say that time for discussions has ended and that now, a decision should be taken to build the new theater as soon as possible, adding that prior to the launch of negotiations, the location that the National Theater currently occupies must be exclusively be exploited for the new building and that no parts of this location should be exploited for other purposes.
