EU accession talks, political class divided about the states in favour and against
Will European Union member countries support the opening of accession talks with Albania? This is the latest debate taking place in Albania a few days ahead of the much anticipated decision. Yesterday, the debate was held in Parliament, where the sides have debated on Germany’s support. According to the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, this state has decided against the opening of accession talks, explaining that this decision has been taken by the left wing and right wing coalition at the German government.

According to him, Prime Minister Rama has also been informed on this decision and that he’s manipulating public opinion. “24 hours ahead of the Merkel-Macron summit, German Christian democrats and social-democrats, allies of the Socialist Party have come to an agreement regarding the decision to open accession talks with Albania. The bad news is that Albanians would have expected the fact that they did not deserve it, but this is a decision coming from Germany. Albania has not delivered the criteria. Through this resolution, which will be made official next week, Albania will not only be imposed conditions, but also a control process”, Basha said. Meanwhile, the declaration made by the democrat leader was followed by that of the socialist whip, Taulant Balla, according to which, Germany is closely following the process of negotiations and that this country’s stance is the same for Montenegro too. “The large coalition in Germany supports the opening of negotiations and Germany is a big promoter of Albania in the EU Summit on June 28th”, he said.
