Court in Tirana reopens the case about the murder of former MP
Yesterday, Tirana District Court has ruled on reopening the so called “case of the century”, which relates the murder of former MP and a key figure of the opposition in the 90’s, Azem Hajdari.

The court has granted the motion filed by Izet Haxhia, who has been convicted with 25 years in prison for this murder. But, Haxhia has never admitted this claiming that he has been unjustly convicted, requesting the reopening of the case on this murder taken place on 21 September 1998. After the ruling, Haxhia’s defense attorney, Bashkim Nikolla has explained the steps that will be taken following this ruling. According to him, the defense holds proof that acquits his client, Izet Haxhia, while demanding for 21 politicians to be interrogated for this process.

“As far as proceedings are concerned, we are going to present our evidence and argue that we’re innocent. We’ve waited 20 years for justice. New evidence has come to light, but this is not the right moment to unfold them. We rely on real proofs and not imaginary ones”, the defense attorney said. Meanwhile, he also added that this decision opens a new page for justice. “The decision that the court took is very important. This is a good day for Albania and better days for the justice system will be coming”, Nikolla said.
