Through a video-testimony published by the Democratic Party, public opinion in Albania was acquainted yesterday with the so called “Witness X”, who appeared in the audio recording that was made public a few days ago and which was used to accuse the Interior minister’s brother of dealing in the traffic of drugs. He is the 51 year old Albert Veliu, who claims that in 2000, he has worked in Italy along with Agron Xhafaj’s group. According to the DP, he is the person who recorded the conversation against the Interior minister’s brother.
“Albert Veliu, 51 years old. I have been in Italy and all my life I have worked at sea. In 2000, I was in Italy with Agron Xhafaj’s group, until 2002. I used to sell cocaine in Italy, but I was caught in Pescara, where I did time. During the time I was in prison, Agron never wrote me a letter or bring me a packet of cigarettes. Afterwards, I wanted to test him and show everyone who he really is. Agron Xhafaj is the one who controls Vlora. This is what he has always done”, was a part of his testimony. Meanwhile, the Socialist Party has immediately reacted through its whip, Taulant Balla. According to him, the leader of the Democratic Party, Basha is the mastermind of this audio-recording. “We think that his naivety has led this party to be involved in a scheme of blackmail against the minister. What happened with the person who claims that he’s been part of the conversation which was made public by the Democratic Party, shows that this political party has turned into a dangerous organization which uses mob like forms of addressing their interests”, was the accusation that was launched by the socialist MP against the DP. Meanwhile, Balla added that this political force is doing this to block the process of the opening of negotiations between Albania and the European Union during the month of June.
