New holiday season, Albania’s objectives and measures being taken
The new 2018 holiday season is starting, but what expectations are there? Let us recall the most recent decision to add ten extra charter flights to and from Albania this summer. Meanwhile, in some of the main locations of the Albanian Riviera, such as Vlora or Ksamil, the holiday season has officially started. In other coastal areas of the country, authorities continue to clean the beaches, offering the impression that Albania always makes the necessary preparations for the summer season, with important roads which are still under construction or works for water supply systems or sewage systems still underway. All of this is happening at a time when the government has officially predicted a 20% increase in the number of tourists visiting the country.

“We’re expecting to see an increase of 15 to 20% in the number of tourists for 2018”, said the minister of Tourism, Blendi Klosi during the presentation of the 2018-2020 Strategy for Tourism. This document determines the way tourism in the country will be developed and how the industry of tourism will turn into one of the main sources of revenues for the economy. The strategy also contains concrete target figures for this year. The only indicator which is not expected to change this year is the one for the creation of new businesses and companies that operate in the sector of tourism. Referring to the figures of the strategy, the increase in the number of new businesses this year will only be 5% as opposed to 5,3% last year. Meanwhile, this year, authorities are predicting the arrival of 5.272.628 foreign tourists in the country as opposed to 5.117.700 last year.
