Landline? This is an option which is being used less and less to hear someone’s voice. And the same thing can also be said about the mobile phone, which up until yesterday, was the preferred method of communication in Albania. Internet seems to be challenging both through different applications in smartphones. These applications have invaded the market of electronic communication.
Whatsapp, Skype or Viber are being chosen more and more as the shortest way to make a conversation with someone, in the country or abroad. We seem to encounter this phenomenon in our daily lives, but it is also confirmed by the Authority for Electronic and Postal Communications. This institution admits the existence of this phenomenon in its 2017 annual report, stating that the use of internet by mobile phone users and land line users has significantly increased. “The number of 3G and 4G internet users on mobile phones has increased by 20% last year”, AKEP says, adding that on the other hand, that the number of minutes of outgoing calls from mobile phones fell by 2.6%, while the number of SMS messages fell by 13%. This shows that such ways of communication are not being used as much as before. “The total number of the users of mobile networks who have used broadband internet at least once in 2017 was around 3.3 million, registering an annual increase of 22.2%”, AKEP says. Meanwhile, this authority also reports that internet access from a mobile device at the end of 2017 was 72% compared to 60% at the end of 2016.
