Three chief prosecutors and judges impeached in a day as part of the vetting process. All three of them have been unable to justify their assets and this has led to their impeachment. These three officials are added to the long list of judges and prosecutors who’ve been removed from the justice system as a result of the vetting process. However, these are no ordinary prosecutors and judges. One of them is chief justice at the Court of Appeal for Serious Crimes. He is justice Fehmi Petku, who was not only accused of concealing his wealth, but also of having inappropriate contacts with people involved in organized crime. Meanwhile, chief prosecutor of Saranda, Edison Ademi was another justice system senior official who was impeached. According to the evaluation commission, the prosecutor in question has breached the code of conduct by associating himself with people who have been under investigation for illegal possession of fire arms and drug traffic.
This chief prosecutor had even travelled to Kosovo in 2014 in a car owned by a person who was under investigation for drug traffic. The third one to be impeached was chief of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to Durres District Court, Ferdinand Elezi, who had been a candidate for the position of General Attorney. The official in question was unable to justify the purchase of two apartments.
Other chief justices and chief prosecutors have also been impeached due to the vetting process. The list includes chief justice of Tropoja, Dritan Seci, chief justice of Permet, Pashk Gjaci, chief justice of Berat, chief prosecutor of Lushnja, Çlirim Shahini and Dritan Rreshka, chief prosecutor in Tirana.
